If you’ve been to the Monaco Yacht Show, then you’ll realize the headline above is a literal reference: Crimson carpeting connects you to the various stands and yachts on display. If you’re serious about yachts yet haven’t attended the show, call your travel agent pronto, because from September 19 to 22, the principality hosts what’s arguably the most significant yacht show worldwide.
Why such a big deal? A few reasons. First, unlike other shows where you literally need to take a taxi to get from one group of exhibitors to another, the Monaco Yacht Show is completely contained within the confines of Port Hercule (read: walkable!). Second, every major player in the megayacht industry attests to the ability to spend quality time with quality buyers–and renews its commitment to display at the following year’s exhibition before the current show is even over. (That includes Power & Motoryacht–we’ll be in the Darse Sud tent, so stop on by to say hello.) In fact, builders reserve Med moorage for projects that aren’t even finished yet but will move hell and high water to ensure the yachts make it on time. Because of all of this, the Monaco Yacht Show has become “the” place to plan a world debut, for the benefit of both clients and the media.
This coming show alone, 95 megayachts will be on display, 30 of which are world debuts. Rather than give you a laundry list of them here, without much room to delve into details, I’ll profile one yacht each week leading up to the show. I’ve already introduced you to Sedation from Heesen Yachts; if you missed that post, I’ll accept your apology, if you click here. Tomorrow I’ll tell you about another debut, the first launch in Moonen’s 94 Alu series, Nilo.
