Now’s the time of year that many a megayacht cruises the warm waters of the Caribbean: Antigua, St. Barts, St. Kitts, you name it. News sites–including this blog–have been filled with announcements of marinas being developed throughout this popular playground. Now there’s word that a 20-year-old destination is getting a makeover for the megayacht market.
Rodney Bay Marina, which opened its doors in 1986 in beautiful St. Lucia, is undergoing a major reconstruction, thanks to Island Global Yachting, the owner/operator since earlier this year. When completed late next year, Rodney Bay Marina will see the addition of 30 megayacht slips and a total of 252 reconstructed berths. The map here, showcasing the new look, is hard to see well, but it also includes refurbished shops and restaurants.
Cuthbert Didier, general manager of Rodney Bay Marina, put it this way: “Our strategic location will allow for the megayacht circuit to cruise through the southern islands in the Caribbean towards Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, and Trinidad and Tobago. Prior to this redevelopment, there were no first-class marina ports in the southern Caribbean which cater to the megayacht industry.”
If your future plans including heading to the marina, don’t despair. It will remain open during the renovation.
