Meet Zeus, the poster child (poster yacht?) for Sunseeker’s new venture, building megayachts measuring 52 meters (170 feet) and larger. Not only that, but they’ll be all-aluminum.
The two steps are quite a departure for the UK-based yard, which to date has built only in fiberglass and to 37 meters (121 feet), though it’s capable of building to 46 meters (150 feet). To address the changes, Sunseeker is constructing new building sheds in Portland, a peninsula west of its current headquarters in Poole.
“This is a very exciting time for the company,” says Robert Braithwaite, Sunseeker’s managing director. “I am very confident the move into larger bespoke shipbuilding will bring further success. What is reassuring is that our clients are asking us to make this move, and the comments received on our initial designs have been extremely encouraging.”
Zeus is actually the code name for two models that will be the first aluminum superyachts for Sunseeker. As noted above, the first will be 52 meters, while the second, seen here, will be two meters larger, or about 177 feet. The yard is keeping most of the details close to its vest, though it has revealed that each model will be custom and built to classification-society requirements.
