A few days after American authorities took two of disgraced investor Bernard Madoff’s boats from a Florida marina, French officials received the go-ahead to detain Bull, his Leopard (similar to the one pictured here) docked in Cap d’Antibes.
According to multiple news reports, bailiffs wrapped chain around the 89-foot megayacht’s propellers last Friday. A sign posted by the same bailiffs warns crew or any other person approaching the yacht to refrain from turning on the engines, due to the chain, and that they will risk “major judicial problems” if they try to take her from the dock.
The bailiffs acted on behalf of Meeschaert, a French investment firm that lost money in one of Madoff’s funds. The newspaper quoted the firm’s chairman, Cedric Meeschaert, as saying the company “decided to act fast, so that the boat wouldn’t leave French waters.”
