Add one more Caribbean destination to the portfolio managed by Island Global Yachting (IGY): Palmas Del Mar Yacht Club, located in Puerto Rico.
Nestled within the Palmas Del Mar resort in the southeastern town of Humacao, the Yacht Club is new, positioning itself as a megayacht destination. Of the 158 slips, 44 are dedicated to these yachts, with 175-footers being the maximum size able to be accommodated. Sailing and power superyachts alike are welcome, as maximum draft is 14 feet. Customs and immigration services are available, as are in-slip fueling and pump-out. As you’d also expect of an IGY-managed property, concierge services are provided. The business center (with Wi-Fi, naturally), ship’s store, and provisioning services will come in handy, too.
It’s interesting to note that Palmas Del Mar Yacht Club is part of IGY’s new Anchor Pass network of marinas. The program is targeted to transient yachts that wish to experience a few locations, not just stay in one place. Indeed, if you buy 120 days at the existing long-term rate, you receive 365 days of dockage at any IGY marina in the Anchor Pass network. You also receive priority reservations at a discount.
Besides this, the marina is part of a resort, so there are several amenities that make it even more attractive. These include a Sheraton hotel and casino as well as a variety of shops, restaurants, and villas. Nearly 3,000 acres in total, the resort further features a bank, an equestrian center, tennis courts, and two golf courses. If onboard guests will arrive or depart by plane, San Juan is about a 45-minute ride away.
Regardless of how you come or go, don’t miss the opportunity to head offshore for some of the best billfishing in the Caribbean. If you like swimming and snorkeling, Palmas Del Mar Yacht Club is a 15-mile hop from the island of Vieques, where the bioluminescent bays have to be seen to be believed.
Furthermore, speaking from a personal perspective, the warm, friendly nature of the Puerto Rican people should also make Palmas Del Mar Yacht Club a must-visit. Unlike some other areas of the Caribbean, the locals are quick with a smile.
