“Although we often use our own in-house design office, we also call upon other well known designers to provide customers with different design approaches.” So says Mehmet Karabeyoglu, the head of Proteksan Turquoise. He’s done just that with the 74-meter (243-footer) you see here, tapping the talents of Andrew Winch Designs.
Based on an existing hull design for a 70-meter (230-footer) that the yard offers, the hull of the 74m is already under construction. The yacht is also actively for sale, with a price of €55 million (approximately $70 million) and a two-year delivery timetable. Bolstering the publicity plan is the fact that the project evolved with input from two prominent brokers: Stuart Larsen of Fraser Yachts and Tim Wiltshire of Burgess. In fact, it was Larsen and Wiltshire who together convinced Karabeyoglu that Winch was the right fit for the project. As for how the two brokers became involved, Karabeyoglu approached them because each had introduced clients who commissioned 70m megayachts.
The ideas that Larsen, Wiltshire, and Winch brought to the table are plentiful, with a central emphasis on flexibility. For one, there are two different exterior styles available: Buyers can opt for traditional appeal or contemporary, curvy flair (the latter seen above). Hull colors are also available. Depending on the style chosen, either a swath of windows line the hull, or a handful of large, rectangular ones punctuate it. The glass brightens the guest staterooms and lends distinctive appeal either way.
The trio also recommended flexibility in the interior arrangement. While they believed potential clients would appreciate a beach club that can also serve as a tender boarding/disembarking area, they also wanted owners to have input. As a result, the master suite can be situated forward on the upper deck or even the main deck. Balconies are further available to make the stateroom a welcome retreat. Since there’s a touch-and-go helipad on the bow, the aft sections of the upper decks are freed up for relaxation and entertainment, arranged however an owner wishes. Since private cinemas are popular, the 74m can include one, and/or a library–even more than one of each. Further adding to the flexibility is the ability to limit guest staterooms, making them extra large.
One thing clients might consider not changing: the indoor-outdoor gym. In Winch’s design, it’s fully aft of the wheelhouse. Of course, it could certainly be replaced with a bar, as that’s a layout option as well, but it would be nice to see a different location for the exercise room, since several superyachts position it forward.
