Sencora, a Turkey-based builder of semicustom and custom fiberglass yachts, is set to begin construction on its largest project to date, the Sencora 52, measuring 52 meters (171 feet).
The project has been in development for a few years, through a collaboration with UK-based Dixon Yacht Design and Germany-based Focus Yacht Design. While Dixon is renowned in the megayacht market for both sail and power projects, Focus Yacht Design is relatively new. The team’s background may initially surprise you: architecture, design, and advertising, not naval architecture or other aspects of yacht design. However, when they discovered they all loved yachts as well, they decided to form Focus Yacht Design.
Dixon explains that the owner requested an ocean-going yacht and one that would spend a good deal of time away from land. The long, lean profile borrows several elements from sailing yachts. As for the hull, the shape and use of composite construction should permit better performance than most metal yachts in the same size range. A top speed of 16 knots should be possible with twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesels. With speed dialed back to 12 knots, a 5,000-nautical-mile range should also be possible.
Accommodations for 10 in the owner’s party and nine crewmembers, plus lounges and sunbathing areas, are spread among the three decks. Interesting enough, the owner’s suite isn’t forward on the main deck; it’s aft on the lower deck. Also unexpected: The captain gets a main-deck cabin. Not everything is so unusual, though. Guests are below decks, in a VIP suite and two guest staterooms.
