Oyster is adding a new sailing superyacht, featuring a semi-fractional sloop rig with fully battened main, to its lineup: the Oyster 825.
Based on the Oyster 82, introduced in 2002, the Oyster 825 is from the drawing boards of Humphreys Yacht Design and the Oyster Design Team. LOA, including bowsprit, is 82’6” (25.15 meters), with a draft of just over 11 feet (3.42 meters). Centerboard and shoal-draft arrangements are optional. Buyers cruising in areas with bridges should note that air draft, excluding antennae, is nearly 113 feet (34.4 meters).
Oyster Marine conceived the Oyster 825 to be more voluminous than her predecessor. Amounting to 15 percent, the extra space is devoted to the owner’s stateroom and three guest cabins aft. Furthermore, there will be a bit more separation of guest and crew. The Oyster 825 will certainly let owners take the helm themselves, but accommodations for four crew forward should be appreciated when entertaining. Crew are housed in a double cabin and a bunk-berth cabin. Another welcome feature: a full-beam (20’8”, or 6.31-meter) saloon.
The cockpit (close-up view above) should see good use, given its emphasis on relaxing and dining. It’s also well-arranged, keeping guests away from the steering station and sail handling. Speaking of sails, sail area is 3,993 square feet (371 square meters).
Delivery of the first Oyster 825 is set for summer 2013.
