Two-year-old Cantiere delle Marche has certainly found an untapped niche in “small” expedition megayachts. The seven contracts it signed in 2012 are now joined by the first of 2013, a Nauta Air 88 model.
The all-aluminum megayacht gets her name from Nauta Yachts, Cantiere delle Marche’s partner in the series. Initially, Cantiere delle Marche outlined just three models in the Nauta Air series, these being the Nauta Air 80, 96, and 115. The owner of the 88, a renowned European architect, requested a good deal of input into the arrangement, which led to the different LOA.
The Nauta Air 88 bears a semi-displacement hull, but isn’t intended for speeds in the low to mid-20-knot range, as you might expect. Instead, she’s set to top out at 17 knots and emphasize lower fuel consumption as well. That’s on par with the performance for the Nauta Air 80, which is said to be capable of an 18-knot maximum speed.
Cantiere delle Marche hasn’t released full details on the megayacht’s custom layout. All it will say for now is that the interior will be elegant. However, it’s easy to imagine the 88 will accommodate at least the same number of people as the 80, that being eight in the owner’s party and two crew. And, like all Nauta Air projects, there’s a nice emphasis on outdoor living. The 710-square-foot (nearly 66-square-meter) flying bridge, for example, has sunning, sitting, and dining areas, all steps from an extra helm station.
