Here’s a look at the all-aluminum Seahawk, measuring 197 feet (60 meters), and her mast-stepping process, which took place at Perini Navi this month.
The ketch, known as hull number C. 2193, is part of a new series. Like previous Perini Navi sailing superyachts, Seahawk and the others in the series have a low profile, but the styling is a bit different, from the drawing boards of both Perini Navi’s in-house team and Ron Holland Design. They’re based partly on Perini Navi’s 56M series. The design and build teams have also taken advantage of newer technologies, of course, and its effect on sailing gear like recessed furlers and captive winches. The series further emphasizes performance, so to that end, Perini Navi anticipates a maximum speed of 15½ knots for Seahawk.
Due to a lifting keel, Seahawk’s draft can go from 14’1” to 40’3” (4.30 to 12.3 meters, respectively). The megayacht’s main mast rises nearly 206 feet (62.62 meters) above the deck, too, while the mizzen mast is 169 feet (51.54 meters). Combine that with her 22,873-square-foot (2,125-square-meter) sail plan, and Seahawk should strike a nice profile.
Also of note: Seahawk is the first Perini Navi to employ carbon fiber for the standing rigging. It’s additionally used for the booms and spreaders, which the megayacht builder has done previously.
Inside, Seahawk bears interior design by Christian Liaigre. Specifics aren’t available on the general arrangement, but Perini Navi does say the atmosphere will combine contemporary touches with nautical ones.
Seahawk will be delivered this year, with the second in the series, a sloop, following next year. Another ketch is underway as well, set for a 2015 delivery. Regarding Seahawk and the sloop, Perini Navi revealed in July 2011, when the projects were signed, that they amounted to a total of more than €70 million, which was about $98.28 at the time. It was quite an unusual disclosure, since custom megayacht builders rarely publicized these figures.
