Attention diving and fishing aficionados: Blue Haven Resort & Marina in the Turks & Caicos Islands just opened this week, and what’s more, you can receive two free nights’ dockage for a limited time.
Blue Haven Resort and Marina is operated by IGY Marinas, situated on the northeastern tip of Providenciales (below), a.k.a. Provo. It’s a strategic move for IGY Marinas, giving it a reach toward the northern Caribbean. (The Turks & Caicos are in the Atlantic Ocean, 550 miles south of Miami and therefore an easy stop on the way to or from the Caribbean.) Provo is the third-largest of the country’s 40 islands and cays, and where most international flights arrive. Blue Haven’s marina can accommodate yachts and megayachts to 220 feet (67 meters)—and, unlike some marinas elsewhere in the Atlantic and farther south in the Caribbean, it can also take catamarans, as there’s no restriction on beam. Draft is restricted, though, to eight feet (2.4 meters). However, when the construction plans for Blue Haven were announced, dredging was arranged to increase depth gradually to about 12 feet (nearly 3.6 meters).
Even if you don’t take advantage of the promotional dockage offer, which applies if you book seven or more nights, Blue Haven Marina lets you use the resort’s amenities, such as the infinity pool, private beach, and gym. The marina itself features volleyball and horseshoe courts plus showers and a conference room with free wifi. Crew will appreciate Salt, a bar and grill dedicated to them. Owners and guests can look forward to an upscale restaurant opening in a few months, but other restaurants are nearby, and arrangements can be made via the resort and marina’s concierge. The same concierge can also get you tee time at the Provo Golf Course, hook you up with a dive company to explore the barrier reef (third largest worldwide) ringing the islands, and flats fishing operators. In fact, through October, anglers from around the world who are participating in the IGY Million Dollar Sportfish Challenge are being hosted at Blue Haven.
