Royal Huisman ended 2013 strongly, signing a contract for a superyacht sloop to be named Sea Eagle on New Year’s Eve.
The 141-foot (43-meter) sloop marks Royal Huisman’s first project for a client from Southeast Asia. Like several shipyards, Royal Huisman has been marketing its abilities in Asia for a few years. It has attended key yachting and lifestyle events, for example. Royal Huisman holds an annual gala at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club as well. There, shipyard personnel and designers give overviews of yacht construction and commissioning. The builder is further working with Bart J. Kimman, director of Northrop & Johnson Asia.
In fact, Kimman introduced the buyer of Sea Eagle to Royal Huisman. While new to the Dutch builder, the owner, from Taiwan, is not new to yachting. In fact, he’s owned a few yachts christened Sea Eagle. (Those of you familiar with yacht names may recall a motoryacht christened accordingly a few years ago. The owner of that project is not the owner of this Sea Eagle.)
The new Sea Eagle bears naval architecture by Germán Frers. Interior design is from Rhoades Young Design. Royal Huisman has not responded to our request for images or other details, such as beam or draft. It will only say that the owner of Sea Eagle plans to participate in regattas. Regardless, some hints as to Sea Eagle’s particulars can be gleaned from similar-size Royal Huisman deliveries and concept projects. Blue Papillon, for example, delivered last summer, is the same LOA. (The photo above, from 2012, is of a scale model of the yacht, then known as Black Papillon.) She is also designed by Frers and Rhoades Young Design. Her beam is 29’5” (8.98 meters), and draft is 14’8” (4.5 meters), thanks to a fixed keel. The same design teams and dimensions are specified for a 43-meter luxury sloop concept design that Royal Huisman offers. Blue Papillon, like Sea Eagle, was conceived for both private cruising and regatta racing. While the concept megayacht project does not specify cruising vs. racing, Royal Huisman does say she is capable of a nearly 15-knot hull speed. Furthermore, for both Blue Papillon and the concept design, two aft guest cabins accompany the master suite, the latter with its own cockpit, of course. Another room can serve either as a VIP stateroom or a study.
When more facts about Sea Eagle are permitted for publicity, we’ll update this story. The same holds for another new sailing superyacht signed by Royal Huisman before year’s end. In the autumn, Royal Huisman inked a deal for a yacht just shy of 130 feet (40 meters). All other details are being kept confidential for now.
