A long-awaited expansion of Port Hercule in Monaco will make the Monaco Yacht Show’s in-water and on-land displays far larger. A total of 118 megayachts will be on display from September 24 to 27.
If you’ve been in Monaco in recent years, you’ve seen ongoing construction along Quai Louis II. That’s where the new Monaco Yacht Club and additional berth creation was taking shape. The organizers of the Monaco Yacht Show and the government coordinated efforts to make the latter happen.
Road access for the public to Quai Louis II was shut down this past October. The goal was for the final work to wrap up by this coming April. The Monaco Yacht Club will have its grand opening in time for the summer season. That in turn will allow the Monaco Yacht Show to take advantage of the new berths, as planned.
Indeed, last year, the Monaco Yacht Show organizers announced that this year’s show would have 15 additional berths for megayachts up to 394 feet (120 meters). While the general map of the Monaco Yacht Show reveals 14 new berths, the minor difference does not detract from it being much-desired space. To put this into perspective, for the last several years, the Monaco Yacht Show has had about 100 berths. A healthy number of additional yachts were at anchor, not officially in the show but available for viewing by appointment with builders and brokers. The extra berths allow the Monaco Yacht Show to have most yachts averaging 164 feet (50 meters), representing another increase. In prior years the average LOA was several feet smaller, again due to the limitations of dockage.
In addition, on-land exhibition space has been at a premium. To date, 161,459 square feet (15,000 square meters) of quayside displays accommodated hundreds of builders, designers, brokers, gear companies, and more. An additional 4,305 square feet (400 square meters) of stands space is now at exhibitors’ disposal.
