Megayacht launches are always significant. But, but a recent one at Westport marked a few important milestones. The 12th hull in its Westport 164 series emerged from her shed. That’s 12 yachts since the series debut in 2006. And, this Westport 164 is the third of an anticipated eight launches overall from the builder this year, which is Westport’s 50th anniversary.
To put things into further perspective, the Westport 164 was the largest series-built megayacht in the world when she premiered. Larger series projects from other builders now exist, of course. But the Westport 164 is still at the upper end of the size range. And, she’s still the largest all-fiberglass series build worldwide.
From the start, the Westport 164 has featured a hull by Bill Garden and styling by Donald Starkey. Twin 3,650-hp MTUs permit a reported 20-knot cruise. The 7’3” (2.2-meter) draft means a variety of quiet bays can be accessed. So, too, can distant shores. At 12 knots, the Westport 164 achieves a reported 5,200-nautical-mile range. Even at 16 knots, she sees a 2,900-nautical-mile range, according to the shipyard.
As is tradition for Westport, the owner of this 164 customized the interior. Details are not available on the woods or the overall decor. However, customization includes the ability to move non-structural bulkheads. The 30’10” (9.2-meter) beam allows some creative configurations. One of the most popular involves keeping the VIP stateroom on the bridge deck. The VIP further has a private terrace. It’s something Westport suggested from the start. This allows for three other guest staterooms below decks to be accompanied by a gym. And, of course, the Westport 164 has a full-beam master suite on the main deck.
Like her predecessors, hull #12 of the Westport 164 series is classed to ABS and complies with the MCA Code.
The other upcoming launches from Westport span its entire size range. They include an 85, a 112, and a 130.
