This week, Mengi Yay Yachts splashed the latest superyacht in a series attracting adventurous cruisers. As her name suggests, the yacht Amphib II will take her owners and guests from shore to shore, whether in sunny and warm destinations or cooler climes.
The 173-footer (nearly 53-meter) has been largely confidential during her development and construction phases over the past few years. However, she is the second yacht from the Mengi Yay Virtus XP series, which includes the recently launched yacht Gray Wolf. This series is for owners and families seeking to cross oceans, pursuing horizons far north and south. To that point, the yacht Amphib II has an Ice Class 1C notation, which means she can operate in light ice. (On a related note, she’s further RINA-classed, meeting the classification society’s Green Plus stringent environmental standards.) Simultaneously, as a Virtus XP project, she preserves contemporary yachting aesthetics. This way, owners and guests get the traditional looks of a Mediterranean and Caribbean cruiser, yet a megayacht made for taking on some more challenging sea conditions.

Being a Virtus XP project additionally means that the yacht Amphib II reunites Mengi Yay with Van Oossanen Naval Architects and VYD Studio. The Van Oossanen studio engineered the steel-hulled project for a 15-knot top speed and a 12-knot cruising speed. These, plus the 17,171-gallon (65,000-liter) fuel capacity, are the same as Gray Wolf, which further has a range of 6,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. The yacht Amphib II should be able to cover that same ground, too.
Although the shipyard isn’t revealing details about the interior design, VYD Studio worked with the owners. A total of 10 people in the owners’ party can stay aboard. The owners should take delivery later this summer.
