Add another Custom Series 164 to the Christensen Shipyards order book. The megayacht that the Washington State builder just signed, at the Yacht & Brokerage Show in Miami, joins three others under construction.
Like those three, this new Custom Series 164 measures 164 feet (50 meters), with a beam of 29’6” (9 meters). However, the newly signed megayacht has different styling. It’s mostly due to the inclusion of a fold-down balcony and a lengthened swim platform. That swim platform has a fold-out section, too, extending usable space at the water’s edge. As for the balcony, it marks the second time that Christensen is employing one on its megayachts. No doubt we’ll see that continue, too. Styling and naval architecture for the Custom Series 164 is by Christensen’s in-house team.
Inside, the Christensen Custom Series 164 will house 12 in the owner’s party. Expect to find a main-deck owner’s suite, a VIP stateroom, and four other guest staterooms. Details aren’t yet available on the decor, or other features. But, given configuration suggestions that Christensen has available, there could be a hot tub forward on the sundeck. There could also be a cocktails/breakfast cockpit on the foredeck. The rendering here does reveal a touch-and-go helipad, however.
Something that is certain is performance. Christensen engineers each Custom Series 164 for a top speed of 16½ knots and a best-cruise range of 4,300 nautical miles. Propulsion comes from twin 12V 4000 Series MTUs. A draft of 7’9” (2.4 meters) means those nautical miles can be maximized in somewhat shallow waters. Each megayacht is also ABS classed and complies with both MCA and LY3 regulations.
Delivery for the newest Custom Series 164 is set for August 2016. And, in case you’re wondering, the next available delivery slot for any Custom Series megayacht is March 2017. Christensen has two Custom Series 160s, a Custom Series 142, and two Ocean Alexander 120s in build right now.
