The ancient city of Troy is already a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s being paid further honors through the construction of Troy, in build at the four-year-old Esenyacht. The 155-foot (47.25-meter) single-masted sloop is in the midst of receiving her interior, which will have many remarkable details depicting warriors waging battle.
Troy is being built to lines penned by Tim Saunders Yacht Design and a hull design by Dykstra Naval Architects. Though she has a steel hull, she has a composite superstructure. Her mast also features composite and carbon fiber. Rather than being made by a subcontractor, though, the mast is being manufactured on site at Esenyacht’s facility in Bodrum, Turkey. In fact, Esenyacht remodeled and lengthened a build shed to accommodate the 207-foot-tall (63-meter-fall) mast and the ovens necessary to cure it, plus additional composite components. That same shed is to be responsible for advanced-composites manufacturing of hatches, superstructures, and more for future projects as well.
Tim Saunders Yacht Design and Ensenyacht’s interior division are infusing Troy with a thoroughly Trojan-oriented decor scheme. The yard’s cabinetry shop is installing paneling and furnishings as you read this. They’re made primarily of walnut, smoked oak, and ebony. Still being finished is an intricate engraving of a battle scene, being crafted by a local artist on site of smoked wood. When completed, it will be adorned with gold leaf. A good deal of gold leaf is being used around doorways aboard Troy, too, including those for the four guest staterooms.
Also sure to be an attention-getter is a custom glass piece being made by Lucio Bubacco, a renowned artist from Murano, Italy. It depicts a horse’s head and, of course, a warrior. The glass piece will be displayed prominently in the main saloon aboard Troy.
The performance-oriented Troy, which will even show off a Trojan helmet on her spinnaker, should be completed toward the end of this year or early next year. She’s also for sale via the central agency of Northrop & Johnson.
