Manhattan gets the lion’s share of attention in the New York area, but Brooklyn is rising steadily in profile, too. No wonder, then, it’s a few months away from being home to ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina.
The development is part of Brooklyn Bridge Park, on New York Harbor. It’s the second ONE°15 property thus far. The first is ONE°15 Marina Club in Singapore, which opened in 2007. Both are owned and operated by SUTL Group. The company’s chairman, Arthur Tay, says he’s wanted to establish additional footholds outside of Asia for a few years. “As we looked to expand the brand into international destinations, we identified the perfect opportunity in Brooklyn, with the vibrant, lush public spaces of Brooklyn Bridge Park and the Manhattan skyline backdrop to open the water itself there to NYC. Boaters and water enthusiasts from around the corner and around the world will feel at home at ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina,” he comments. The company was one of a few that responded to a request for proposals for the marina initiated in 2013.
ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina will include 140 slips, 102 of which will be available for reservations. They’ll accommodate yachts to 250 feet LOA. The remaining slips will be part of ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina’s community dock. Amounting to about 25 percent of the overall docks’ square footage, the community dock will offer free and low-cost boating programs to the public. A sailing school, kids’ programs, kayaking lessons, and a sailing club are among those programs. Two percent of all ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina revenue will support them, too.
For the megayacht set, ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina will include the features and amenities that owners, guests, and crew have come to expect elsewhere. In-slip wifi, water, and electricity; 24-hour security; and gated access are among them. A private Harbor Club is in the planning stages, too, though no details are yet available. Within walking distance of the marina is the arts-oriented DUMBO neighborhood.
Further noteworthy, ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina will strive to be “green.” The club facilities will be powered via electricity from photovoltaic panels. Floating “wetlands” will be added, too.
If you’re familiar with New York Harbor, no doubt you know the wave action resulting from the near-constant flow of commuter ferries, tourist boats, and more. ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina is installing a concrete breakwater, striving for waves of less than one inch within the basin.
ONE°15 Brooklyn Marina is set to open next year.
