Perini Navi is simultaneously celebrating a second and a first. The second 42M E-volution sailing superyacht is under contract. As for the first, the yacht is the first 42M E-volution GTS.
The shipyard revealed the E-volution series nearly a year ago. A few months later, it announced the sale of hull number one. The 138-footer focuses on eco-friendly operations, with an electric motor as well as a single diesel engine. In addition, the 42M E-volution focuses on fast cruising for an owner’s party of eight. The idea is to appeal to “a new generation of owners seeking impeccable design, simple sailing, and performance,” according to Perini Navi.
This new 42M E-volution GTS bears some similarities, as well as differences. The contemporary looks and performance edge come from Reichel/Pugh. She still has a 31-foot (9.53-meter beam), too. The GTS notation, however, refers to the yacht’s spirited intent, and therefore construction. Similar to GTS (grand tourer) automobiles, the 42M E-volution GTS will combine luxury features with performance-sailing characteristics. To that end, Perini Navi is employing an aluminum hull as well as a carbon fiber superstructure. The standard E-volution employs all-aluminum construction.
A few more differences exist, too. The owner, a European well versed in sailing, requested a sleeker deckhouse, for example. That, along with other modifications, reduces displacement. (Perini Navi hasn’t indicated the displacement figure, however.) Rather than have a lifting keel resulting in a maximum draft of 18 feet (5.5 meters), the owner has a deeper keel. It makes draft 24’3” (7.4 meters). Furthermore, this 42M E-volution GTS has a Panamax height mast of 205 feet (62.5 meters). (“Panamax height” means the yacht can still pass beneath the Bridge of the Americas at Balboa harbor. Specific to this sailing superyacht, the mast height will allow her to pass beneath the bridge at mean low water.) Finally, look for a square-top mainsail as well as an elongated bowsprit.
Delivery for the project, with an interior by Perini Navi and GCA, is set for springtime in 2021.
