The owners of Hull 1012, a sloop set for delivery next year from New Zealand’s Yachting Developments, are giving us the first impressions of what the interior of their sailing superyacht will look like.
While they’re still keeping the yacht’s name confidential, the owners are keen to travel the world aboard. In fact, they commissioned Hull 1012 for that very purpose, and she’s their first new build. (Though, the owners are not newcomers to yachting, having owned at least one smaller yacht previously.) Adam Lay, principal of Adam Lay Studio, responsible for the interior design of Hull 1012, characterizes them this way: “The owners are proper sailors who undertake lengthy voyages, enjoying the journey as much if not more than the destination.”
The interior of Hull 1012, which measures 110’6” (33.7 meters), is squarely focused on family time. As a result, the saloon, seen above, is full beam (25’6”, or 7.8 meters) and bright, benefitting from skylights. It further includes a bar and dining space for eight. The overall effect is likened to that of an open-layout apartment.
Something sure to be special about the interior: the owners’ own photos hanging on the walls. They undertook some terrific trips aboard their previous sailing yacht and captured several memories on film. Lay says that the colors chosen for Hull 1012 are all taken from those in the photos. The decor of each guest stateroom is also tied to one of these trips.
Some of the photos will naturally hang in the master suite, also above. Like Hull 1012’s saloon, it has skylights for a bright ambiance. The skylights open, too, to permit natural air circulation.
Anticipate Hull 1012, being built entirely of composite, to be finished in about six months. Also expect the owners to take the wheel themselves on occasion upon delivery.
