The annual Newport Charter Yacht Show has new owners, and a new home. Starting this June, the event will be hosted at Newport Shipyard.
The charter show was long a broker-only event. While the industry focus remained in recent years, the now-previous organizers, Newport Exhibition Group, welcomed charter guests accompanied by brokers. The Newport Charter Yacht Show also had extra exhibit space for related goods and service providers. Eli Dana, general manager of Newport Shipyard, says his team will keep many of the event’s highlights. These include the chef competitions and stew table-setting and design competitions. “We will work closely with sponsors, captains, crew, vendors and charter brokers to be sure this perennial show continues to thrive here in Newport,” Dana says.
Newport Shipyard is a fitting location. It boasts the most dockage in the city, plus a restaurant and ship’s store. These are in addition to Newport Shipyard’s well-known service and refit areas. Newport Shipyard has further been a sponsor of the Newport Charter Yacht Show for four years.
Nancy Piffard, show director for Newport Exhibition Group, underscores the dockage as being a big plus for the transfer of ownership. “The amount of dock space, services, and amenities that Newport Shipyard offers lends itself to the larger yacht industry,” she comments. “We are confident that the Newport Charter Show will thrive in its new home.”
The dates for the 2016 edition of the Newport Charter Yacht Show are June 21 to 24.
