Come April, McMullen & Wing will be hauling out VvS1 for her 10-year survey.
The 111-foot (34-meter) VvS1 is spending the next several months cruising in the South Pacific before heading to the New Zealand-based yard. The refit there is a homecoming of sorts for VvS1. She was built at a fellow New Zealand yard, the now-defunct Alloy Yachts, in 2007. And, VvS1 is owned by prominent New Zealanders, Michael and Christine Hill. Michael Eaglan, CEO of McMullen & Wing, says they and their family “are very active yachties.” He adds, “They have explored many of the world’s traditional yachting hotspots, only to return even more passionate about New Zealand’s stunning coastline.” Indeed, the photo here was taken of VvS1 while she was cruising the country’s Fiordland National Park. Eaglan continues, “They are proud flag bearers for our beautiful country, and it is an honor to play our part in their ongoing enjoyment of the unique and stunning yachting that New Zealand and the South Pacific offers and to help maintain their magnificent and award-winning New Zealand-built yacht in pristine condition.”
Since the refit is survey-related, to comply with Lloyds classification, the scope of the work is mostly on systems. The gensets and shore-power converter are also set to be replaced. VvS1 will additionally see some other maintenance-related tasks performed.
