Forget RIBs and PWCs, today’s yacht owners want to take all of their favorite toys along. You’re looking at the custom motorcycle display created by a UK company for the owner of the new Princess 30M megayacht.
That company is CJR Fabrication, which specializes in custom metal creations for yachts and architecture. (Among its high-profile works in the latter category: the handrails along London’s Millennium Bridge and at the Tower of London.) Mark Russell, CJR Fabrication’s managing director, says that engineering the display was as much of a challenge as designing it. The company worked with both the megayacht’s owner, who commissioned it for his custom Lauge Jensen Viking bike, and Princess Yachts. The owner wanted the display case to truly be a case—meaning it could be lifted on and off the yacht via a davit. Strengthened glass is therefore surrounded by stainless steel. Four lifting eyes on two stiffener bars make the davit’s job easier.
The stainless steel and glass serve aesthetic purposes, too. Naturally, the owner of the Princess 30M wants to see his bike when he’s onboard, and when he’s approaching her. That explains the upper-deck location. Much of the metal is polished and painted to complement the yacht. The forward sections of metal are covered with white gelcoat, for the same reason. And, although we don’t have photos, an integrated strip light calls more attention to the bike at night.
Also noteworthy, the top of the case can be removed from the base. This makes it simpler to move the motorcycle off the base when the road calls. And, there are wheel slots in that base to keep the bike, and the display case overall, lower profile onboard.
For security while aboard the Princess 30M, CJR Fabrication created two locking pins. They attach the display to a custom landing pad on deck. Handlebar straps further keep the bike balanced when the yacht is in motion. Equally important, from a different safety perspective, a fuel-fumes detector and ventilation fan are contained in the display.
