Having made her global boat-show debut this week in Dubai (and being the largest megayacht at the show), Asya proves how a longstanding popular series from Heesen Shipyard can be improved, and can continue to suit different tastes.
Asya is part of what Heesen calls its 47-meter class. This 154-foot series includes 10 previous deliveries. Asya is the second in that series to incorporate new styling. (The first: Elena.) This is not to say that the older yachts looked dated. Rather, Heesen and its longtime exterior-design partner Omega Architects decided more contemporary lines were in order. You therefore will find bigger ports—and continuous panes of glass—along the superstructure of Asya. More important, the restyling led to physical improvement, too. There’s better stowage of the rescue tender. It sits in an enclosed bay forward of the wheelhouse.
While Asya shares her outward appearance with Elena, inside she asserts her own personality. Whereas Elena has richly detailed areas, notably an astounding mosaic of a tree in the master bath, Asya reflects the simplified aesthetic of Bannenberg & Rowell. The overall feel is serene, straightforward, though certainly not minimal as sometimes is assumed by “simplified.” The studio drew inspiration from famed architects Frank Lloyd-Wright and Tadao Ando, plus the industrial designer Dieter Rams.
