First came the Prince Shark series from Rossinavi. Now, there’s project King Shark. She’s a nearly 230-footer which, on first glance, looks like a warm-weather-only cruiser. However, her owner intends to take her to Antarctica as much as common Caribbean locales.
The styling therefore is quite unusual. Typically, motoryachts meant to meet ice-class notations look rather rugged. This owner wanted King Shark to reflect spirit of the cruising lifestyle instead. More to that point, he wanted her outward appearance to match her interior. All the while, the decorative nature would rise to the requirements of the technical nature.
That technical nature includes diesel-electric propulsion. With Arrabito Naval Architects’ input, King Shark should exceed 6,000 nautical miles at about 12 knots. Furthermore, she should cruise, at half load, at about 15 knots. Also of significance, the megayacht is complying with two classification-society requirements, those of RINA and Lloyds.
With a 41’7” beam and nearly 11-foot draft, King Shark is additionally quite voluminous. Gross tonnage is 1,560. The owner and Team For Design – Enrico Gobbi, handling both styling and interior design, have some surprises set in store for the general arrangement. So many superyachts have the main saloon just off the aft deck, followed by the formal dining area, and then the master suite. King Shark situates the saloon in the customary location, but that’s it. Part of the saloon doubles as a cinema space, and the only sleeping space on this deck is split into two cabins, one for an officer and one for an engineer. Between their cabins and the lobby, King Shark includes a wellness area. It features a gym, massage room, and hammam.
Dining takes place instead one deck up, in a circular indoor-outdoor area. That same deck sees the master suite fully forward, with a private alfresco area. Interestingly, a VIP adjoins the master suite.
Not everything about King Shark breaks with tradition, however. Four additional guest staterooms go below decks, as do accommodations for the rest of the crew (17 total hands). Tenders and toys (including up to six PWCs) launch outboard to starboard below decks, forward of the beach club. Complementing the hammam mentioned above, a sauna sits in here.
Delivery should be in 2019.
