UPDATE, OCTOBER 6, 2016: Floating Life tells us that Cantiere delle Marche is building this K Series superyacht. Read on for the original story.
Travels in light ice conditions are among the adventures anticipated by the buyer of the K-42 seen here. She’s the second such expedition yacht, part of the K Series fleet, sold in the past several months by Floating Life.
Floating Life specializes in yacht management, charter, and sales. Recognizing that more megayacht buyers want to go exploring, the company conceived the semi-custom K Series lineup. It focuses on yachts of 118 feet (36 meters) and larger, all intended for globetrotting. The company tapped the naval architects at Studio Sculli to develop a series of hull designs tank tested for best performance in varying conditions, range, and comfort. All K Series superyachts additionally bear a steel hull. This is not to say, however, that buyers cannot customize anything. In fact, clients select the shipyard, plus can tailor the superstructure, not just the interior. Floating Life further handles project management during the build and all logistics for owners after delivery.
Floating Life says the owner of the K-42 (138 feet, or 42 meters) has not yet chosen a shipyard. However, Floating Life anticipates delivery in 2018. The first K Series, termed K-40 (131 feet, or 40 meters), is under construction with CCN. That contract signing took place last October.
The K-42 includes five decks, displacing a voluminous 450 gross tons for her size. Twelve guests have accommodations, though understandably the owners have the lion’s share of space. There’s an entire owner’s deck aboard this K Series yacht, which includes a private saloon and hot tub. Thirty feet (9.2 meters) of beam should make the interior more than comfortable for all. A beach club and a 33-foot (10-meter) tender are among other highlights.
Floating Life anticipates the K-42 to see a top end of 16 knots and best range of 5,400 nautical miles.
