While many semi-custom “small” megayachts exist, Dominator Yachts believes it’s created something different. Kalliente, the first Ilumen 28M, certainly is different, in several ways, from her construction to her creature comforts.
With an LOA of 92 feet (28 meters), Kalliente starts with carbon fiber construction. To avoid the drag from commonly used zero-speed stabilizers, she employs a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer. While underway, she taps a Humphree Active Ride Control system. This damps uncomfortable pitch and roll. It also does so with less drag than some other solutions, thereby benefitting fuel burn. Further beneficial, Kalliente employs film between the layers of window glass to reduce solar heat. Dominator claims 40-percent heat reduction, in fact. That means lower air-conditioning needs, and costs. Finally, Kalliente is painted, like much larger megayachts, not reliant on gelcoat.
Also due to her LOA, you might assume Kalliente can’t offer much in the way of creative layouts. Alberto Mancini introduced a skylight and curved glass wall in the master stateroom—on the main deck, too. That glass wall even yields access to a private alfresco area. “We set out to challenge limitations,” Mancini comments.
Dominator also challenged Videoworks, an AV specialist, to develop a system special for the project. The result: speakers embedded in wood, stone, and more in each guest stateroom that remain invisible. There’s also a projector on the sundeck.
With backlit onyx, ebony, oak, suede, and more, Kalliente will make the most of the summer season in the Med. She’ll then debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. Take a closer look below; don’t miss the onyx champagne bar.
