With nearly 20 years of yacht building behind it, Dominator Yachts is adding bigger megayacht models. In celebrating its anniversary, it gave customers a sneak peek at its largest project in build. Peppermint is hull number one of the Dominator Ilumen 42M Tri-Deck series. Uncommon for her 138-foot LOA, she is meant for transatlantic crossings.
While Dominator builds all of its yachts, like the Ilumen 28 Cadet V, for long-range cruising, the Ilumen 42M Tri-Deck is the first for transiting on her own bottom between Europe and the Americas. In fact, the shipyard says Peppermint’s twin 2,600-hp MTUs should allow a 4,500-nautical-mile range at 11 knots at half load. This is with the semi-displacement hull option. A full-displacement hull is available for buyers, too. Even that choice is uncommon, as is a touch-and-go helipad forward (which Peppermint won’t feature).
Fitting, however, for her intended purpose, Peppermint will reflect the owner’s love of global travel. Because of that, and because she’ll welcome guests with varied cultural backgrounds, each deck has different international flair. For example, the flying bridge will entertain guests in a hookah lounge. The overall ambiance here has Middle Eastern influences. The saloon, meanwhile, will exude Milanese polish, especially through contemporary art from artists in the Italian city.
City-slicker sophistication comes in the master suite (above). The owner is creating a New York penthouse look and feel. A large skylight and a virtual wall of glass forward aid in that regard. Furthermore, the owner gets access to a private alfresco area via sliding doors in the wall of glass. He intends to spend a lot of time aboard Peppermint, too, so the suite includes teleconferencing equipment and other office needs.
When he wants to wind down, his Ilumen 42M Tri-Deck will have a few enviable escapes. While one is the beach club, a better place is the upper deck. It will contain a yoga studio, gym, and smoothie bar. In keeping with the multi-cultural decor, the look incorporates Asian accents.
