Multi-hull yachts have a well-earned reputation for stability and hydrodynamic efficiency. Two years of research and design work went in to creating the MC155 trimaran megayacht, measuring 153’4” (46.8 meters). Ready for contract, she offers these advantages, plus much more. In fact, her build and design teams assert construction and operational costs will equal those of a single-hulled megayacht half her LOA.
The MC155 represents the work of Frers Naval Architecture & Engineering for naval architecture and styling, and McConaghy Boats for engineering and systems, as well as yacht construction. Since that construction entails high-tech composites, the consultants from Pure Design & Engineering played a role, too. In addition, the classification society DNV GL has signed off on the MC155’s anticipated performance characteristics.
Those characteristics include a top speed of 27 knots and a range of 3,000 nautical miles at a 12-knot cruise. Power will come from twin 1,360-hp diesels. The MC155 has a super-shallow draft of 4’6” (1.4 meters). Tank tests in Germany reportedly provided better-than-expected results, too, for drag, pitch, and roll. Naturally, besides meeting the above-mentioned class requirements, the MC155 will meet the MCA’s LY3 standards. She’ll also meet the MLC 2006 international regulations for crew well-being and manning requirements.
McConaghy Boats is confident in the performance and efficiency predictions due to its partners in the project. But, it’s further confident due to its own background. You may remember that McConaghy is the builder behind the multihull Adastra, delivered in 2012. In addition, it built Artemis Racing’s AC45 foiling catamaran for the just-concluded America’s Cup. Overall, McConaghy has built a number of complex, all-composite craft.
Since the build and design teams recognize pleasure is a big part of the equation, Design Unlimited http://www.designunlimited.net/ penned suggested layouts for the owner’s party of nine. The master suite (above) enjoys enviable views from the upper deck. It also includes its own gym, which boasts beautiful views, too. For convenience when in remote locations, there’s a helipad just outside the suite.
The owner and guests should appreciate how the saloon and formal dining area occupy the full 37-foot (11.3-meter) beam. For a real indoor-outdoor feel, the aft deck has a welcoming, shaded lounging area with a bar. It’s in proximity to a pool as well, and steps above the swim platform. Interestingly, if the owner wants or needs to conduct business, several interior areas can close off for meetings and general privacy.
Crew’s needs are carefully considered, too. The MC155 trimaran accommodates six, providing them with dedicated service points throughout. These include the toy garages, situated in each hull side.
Construction can begin upon contract.
