Every yacht contract is a cause for celebration at a shipyard. Rossinavi was in an extra-celebratory mood when the owner of Florentina signed the dotted line. Measuring 170’6″ (52 meters), she represents the largest length, with an equally large volume, among its more recent contracts.
Specifically, Florentina has a gross tonnage of 700. Collaborating with the yard on naval architecture is Studio Vafiadis, run by the renowned father and son team of Giorgio and Stefano Vafiadis. While details are unfortunately scarce, the studio does say the goal is “to create a new milestone” for Rossinavi. Soft lines, as you can see in the rendering above, play just one part in that.
Complementing the work by Studio Vafiadis, Florentina features abundant soft curves inside. They come courtesy of A++ Design, which itself is quite an interesting story. It is an architecture company, but takes into account cross-cultural and even cross-disciplinary influences. In addition, A++ Design believes it is important for designs to “communicate” with their surroundings. Therefore, Carlo Colombo, one of the studio principals, is ensuring Florentina reflects natural shapes within her rooms. Usability, versus simply beauty, is simultaneously important.
One area that should be a central aesthetic focus: the staircase connecting Florentina’s decks. It curves from the lowest deck to the uppermost deck, clad in light-tone wood, leather, and other materials with warm tones.
Given the 34-foot (10.35-meter) beam, the master suite should also attract attention. Furthermore, in keeping with the sinuous aesthetic, the same curves that flow along the staircase flow here, too. They shape the headboard, details underfoot, as well as details overhead. To address the natural aspect, A++ Design is centering a mirrored ring in the suite. It will pick up the scenic seascapes just outside the ports. (On a side note, so as not to detract from any of this, even when the owners open their closets, certain accessories will appear only when really needed.)
Florentina should take her owners and 10 guests on plenty of scenic cruises. Rossinavi anticipates a cruising speed of 13.5 knots. A 1:1 crew-to-guest ratio is a bonus.
