When the 115-foot (35-meter) Gipsy premiered last year, potential Otam customers naturally took a close look. Gipsy was the first Otam Custom Range megayacht, where not just interior design is available to tailor. Picking up where that owner left off, another customer wanted dramatically different styling but the same LOA. That led to the Otam 115, with a different design team, too.
The Otam 115 concept (there’s no contract yet) bears the signature of R+P Architecture. The “R” is Alessio Riccobaldi, while the “P” is Niccolo Pasquini. The customer liked the semi-displacement nature of Gipsy but not her traditional looks. He prefers more modern styling, like a plumb bow and a far more open upper deck. The latter allows for lounging and tender stowage. For example, a 23-foot-long (7-meter-long) tender can sit here, alongside its launching crane. Since the Otam 115 does have a garage as well, though, the owner might skip this upper stowage. Instead, he can have more entertainment space. That would complement the indoor-outdoor dining area, with full-height glass, forward.
In relation to the garage, the design team proposed two ideas. In one, the Otam 115 has side-opening stowage. For the other, the tender launches via the transom. The side garage yields more space for the beach club and extras the owner wants, including a children’s playroom, a gym, a bar, and a dive center. The transom garage adds an elongated swim platform.
Interestingly, despite this client’s more modern tastes, he wants a more traditional master-stateroom spot: the main deck. The Otam 115 puts 538 square feet (50 square meters) of suite space at his disposal. It’s all forward of a similarly traditional layout, with a saloon (above), a dining area, and a galley. Gipsy’s owner, by contrast, requested essentially the entire upper deck as his suite. Furthermore, the main deck is primarily a private theater, with formal dining fully forward.
The new Otam 115 Custom Range megayacht sticks with tradition in a few other places. Four guest staterooms go below decks, as do three double cabins for crew. Sunning and/or dining can take place on the high-bow foredeck. Finally, the uppermost deck devotes room to more sunning and dining, along with cocktail hours and hot-tub time.
No word on whether the Otam 115 engineering will differ. If not, top speed should be 20 knots, with a 2,000-nautical-mile range at 11 knots. Draft should also be 7’2’ (2.2 meters).
