Despite a good deal of publicity about what was and wasn’t impacted by this year’s unprecedented hurricane season, confusion still exists. Some owners and charter guests think that they can’t cruise the Caribbean this winter. On the contrary, not only are islands rebounding, some were largely untouched. St. Kitts is among the latter, having avoided a direct hit from Hurricane Irma. Mindful of that, plus the larger need to bring boats back to the Caribbean, Christophe Harbour’s marina is making an attractive offer. It comes down to this: If you fuel up, you can tie up for free.
In fact, two offers exist. While both involve free dockage, the difference comes down to the amount of fuel, and number of nights. Conveniently, Christophe Harbour has its own high-speed fuel dock. Therefore, if a yacht purchases 15,000 gallons (56,781 liters) or more, she can stay for two nights in a marina slip. Never fear if you don’t need that much fuel. Even if you purchase 3,000 gallons (11,356 liters), you receive a complimentary slip for an evening. Either way, the offer is valid from now through April.
Christophe Harbour’s director of yachting, Capt. Aeneas Hollins, explains the simple reason behind the offer. “We want to kick-start the season and celebrate the fact that the Caribbean is open.”
Able to accommodate megayachts to 300 feet (91 meters), Christophe Harbour has 24 side-to berths. The marina can accommodate drafts to 18 feet (4.6 meters) and quite wide beams, to 59 feet (18 meters). A megayacht owner whose other interest is real estate owns it, and megayacht captains staff it. So, they’re more than familiar with the special requirements for dockage. They’re also more than familiar with the special desires of owners, guests, and crew. Twenty-four-hour security, provisioning, and itinerary planning are just some of the services. So, too, are VIP customs clearances on site. Furthermore, a crew concierge secures discounts for a variety of services, plus arranges crew-only trips and events. Add in the newly opened Park Hyatt, situated within the Christophe Harbour development, and there’s more to enjoy.
As much as its amenities are big draws, Christophe Harbour gets good attention due to its fueling operations. It’s swift, up to 125 gallons (473 liters) per minute. Cost is quite reasonable, too, starting at $2.70 per gallon ($0.70 per liter). Back when Christophe Harbour added in-slip fueling, Hollins mentioned, “Large-yacht fueling was occurring in low numbers at both Port Zante in St. Kitts and Long Point in Nevis prior to this.” He added, “having duty-free fuel in-berth in a dedicated, purpose-built large-yacht marina holds great appeal for the fleet.”
