If you’re seeing more kids and parents traveling together, you’re not alone. Diana Yacht Design has noted it, too. It’s further noted that more families with young children are setting off on global cruises. The studio’s Bluebird concept design sets this as its very foundation. The megayacht has family-centric spaces to suit generations as the years go by.
The images here are for a 180-foot (55-meter) megayacht. But, Diana Yacht Design says the Bluebird concept can range between 164 and 197 feet (50 and 60 meters). Regardless, styling-wise, there’s a blend of expedition-yacht and traditional-yacht elements. For example, the studio shifts the superstructure farther forward, like an explorer would have. Yet, she also has the bow flare so aesthetically pleasing to traditionalists. That bow flare serves a purpose, of course, knocking spray away and minimizing slamming. That’s key for any megayacht, but especially one engineered for a 4,000-nautical-mile range at 12 knots. (Diana Yacht Design calls for Caterpillar power.)
Diana Yacht Design understands full well how stowage is even more important for globe trotters. A few of its megayachts, including Triple 8 and Hadia, have completed circumnavigations, more than once, too. Abundant refrigeration holds sit on the Bluebird concept’s tank deck, as does a full laundry room. A dumbwaiter makes taking items up from here or sending them down easier. (The dumbwaiter connects all decks as well, sure to be appreciated by the 14-person crew.)
What really sets the Bluebird concept apart, though, is the ability to have a three-suite, two-deck family apartment. Mom and Dad get the level above the main deck. A private stairway, with a door, lets the kids come up from their cabins. They get double suites forward on the main deck. Lockable doors there, as well as on the parents’ level, maintain private time. (Private couple time gets preserved, too. The owners’ suite has 180-degree views and spans the 33-foot/10-meter beam.) More kids? No problem. The doubles can convert, plus at least one child can go in the nanny’s/teacher’s cabin close by.
Thankfully, as the children grow into adulthood, the family won’t outgrow the Bluebird layout. Those same main-deck suites can undergo refits, having abundant floor space for different configurations. The same holds for the four below-decks staterooms.
Diana Yacht Design will collaborate with an interior designer and shipyard of the buyers’ choice. Whether you want a cinema, a plethora of toys, or both, the possibilities exist, and then some.
