Move over, Hatteras 100. A new big sister is on the way. Not only that, but the Hatteras 105 Raised Pilothouse might just have the largest resin-infused hull created on U.S. shores.
Kelly Grindle, Hatteras’ CEO, made that latter statement at the formal announcement of the megayacht at February’s Miami Yacht Show. He’s probably right, too. The hull for Comanche, built by Hodgdon Yachts several years ago, certainly was among the largest, and she’s five feet smaller.
Regardless, the Hatteras 105 Raised Pilothouse certainly sets a record for the North Carolina builder. She’ll have the largest resin-infused hull that it has created to date. The approach is for strength as much as weight savings. Though Hatteras hasn’t disclosed expected speed numbers, it does say her range makes trips from New England to the Bahamas possible. (Power comes from twin 1,900-hp Caterapillar C32s.) The 6’2” (1.89-meter) draft also makes that trip, along with other shallow-voyage cruises, possible.
Hands-on owners will appreciate that the Hatteras 105 Raised Pilothouse will come with the HattCON system. It’s a ship-management system akin to that found aboard far larger megayachts. HattCON integrates both operational systems as well as comfort-related ones. Touchscreens at the helm display whatever information you wish, making it simple to use. Equally important, Hatteras and its maritime-engineering partner created HattCON with a dashboard control, for use in rough seas.
For enjoying sunsets at anchor, or hosting friends and family for celebrations, the 105 Raised Pilothouse has a few notable features. One is the foredeck lounging space. Another is the saloon, with full-height glass to each side. If you particularly like to entertain big groups in a somewhat casual setting, go for the main-deck galley. It benefits from large skylights overhead. (Take a look at the Hatteras M90 Panacera for the effect.) Alternately, you can request your stateroom go here. And yes, you’ll still get the skylights.
