Boats are getting bigger, and with that comes a longer wait for delivery. Bilgin Yachts believes it can attract those who don’t want such a delay, with a newly started project, the Bilgin 220. With construction begun in June, the megayacht should be finished within three years’ time.
While she’s not the shipyard’s biggest project—the Bilgin 263 has that honor—the megayacht is nonetheless a substantial undertaking. She encompasses six decks and should have a full-load displacement of 1,262 tons. The 220-footer (67-meter) has a beam of 39 feet (12 meters) as well.
“We started with the idea of including all the necessities in practically large and comfortable living areas,” says Emrecan Özgün, the CEO and founder of Unique Yacht Design, responsible for styling and naval architecture. “This yacht offers a dolce vita to its guests while balancing interior and exterior concepts.” For example, as is common nowadays, large vertical ports line the living areas, as well as the guest staterooms, to enjoy the views. The Bilgin 220 also has shaded and open-air alfresco areas, including sunning space on the uppermost deck. Overall, stylistically, Unique Yacht Design lends her looks reminiscent of the Bilgin 263 and her smaller sister, the Bilgin 156. A family connection was important to the shipyard.
Inside, H2 Yacht Design, another familiar shipyard partner, indulges owners and guests in several spaces to relax. Sixteen can dine together in the formal dining area on the Bilgin 220’s main deck, for example. While a saloon is on this deck, too, a second one with a bar sits on the bridge deck. Yet a third lounge is on the upper deck. Stateroom arrangements are a little unusual, too. The VIP is near the master suite on the main deck. On a side note, the touch-and-go helipad lets owners land aboard and walk several feet to their suite. Eight more guests get staterooms below decks.
Bilgin Yachts anticipates the Bilgin 220 will see a 5,000-nautical-mile range at half load at 15 knots, under MTU power.
