Preciosa Lighting follows the nearly 300-year-old practice of glass blowing and cutting from Bohemia (which became part of the Czech Republic). The company designs and manufactures chandeliers and decorative lighting for cruise ships and megayachts. Interestingly, it also designs the Monaco Yacht Show’s crystal awards trophies. This year’s show will further see Preciosa showcase Pearl Drop, quickly becoming a favorite lighting option among yacht owners.
Pearl Drop comes from Amsterdam-based designer Frank Tjepkema. It features dozens of round lights, employing just glass and metal. Tjepkema likens Pearl Drop to “jewelry for a space,” due to the string-of-pearls-like effect.
More striking, though, the lighting is interactive. Touch one of the drops, and it illuminates.
We tell you more about this special glass in the September edition of the MegayachtNews.com newsletter. As we do each month, we share news not found here on our daily website. For example, did you know that Front Street Shipyard has a new interiors showroom for refit customers? Also, did you know that Astondoa has a new American sales representative?
