Baglietto Project53 Yacht Series Shows Midsize Superyachts Still Popular

The number of large megayachts measuring about 262 feet (80 meters) and up has certainly risen significantly in less than a decade. Buyers seeking something equally amenity-rich yet in a more modest LOA still have options, and Baglietto is intent on increasing them. The sale of the design it calls the Project53 yacht is the latest example.

At 172 feet (52.5 meters), the Baglietto Project53 yacht is for a repeat client. The first of a new series, too, she incorporates many of the features desired not just by this owner, but also the majority of yachting enthusiasts. Specifically, the emphasis is on outdoor living, including as much wide-open space as possible close to the water. The opening side platforms flanking the beach area are a good example. So, too, is the beach area itself, with a deep, fixed swim platform ideal for loose furnishings at anchor. A transformer platform in the center of the swim platform deploys for swimmers’ ease in getting in and out of the sea as well. If you include the transformer, four open-air levels flow one into the other and straight into the ocean.

These are all thanks to Enrico Gobbi – Team for Design, responsible for styling as well as interior design. The studio is already collaborating with Baglietto on two current superyachts, including a fully custom 56-meter (184-footer) and Project58, a still-on-paper 188-footer (57.3-meter). However, like Project53, Project58 prioritizes outdoor relaxation. It’s especially evident with a foredeck lounge and pool directly off the master suite, a private extension of the space.

The Baglietto Project53 yacht design offers some nice private areas as well. For instance, a U-shape observation settee nestles against the wheelhouse. It’s almost like a balcony, with glass bulwarks forward permitting views out over the bow. Up on the sundeck, meanwhile, guests can relax or dine beneath the fixed hardtop, soak in a forward pool, and more. It’s an entirely customizable space, as are the other decks aboard.

With a main-deck master suite and what the shipyard describes as bright, elegant, and modern spaces, the Baglietto Project53 yacht is also ell-aluminum. Aluminum hulls often go hand in hand with semi-displacement speeds, but not in this case. Instead, the superyacht is a full-displacement design. According to preliminary calculations, she should top out around 16½ knots under Caterpillar power. Notably, Project53 is already engineered for optional hybrid power, with lithium batteries, electric motors, and variable-speed gensets.

Delivery is set for 2029. On a related note, the sale of Project53 is the fifth contract for the shipyard so far this year.
