The first Arksen 85, also known as the Arksen Project Ocean, continues to mark construction milestones. The aluminum hull recently turned in her build shed on the Isle of Wight, and is now about 90 percent finished.
You may recall that in 2019, Arksen introduced itself to push the boundaries of exploration in yachting. Additionally, it focuses on three principles, these being explorer yachts, a non-profit supporting ocean research and conservation, and an explorers’ club. The Arksen 85 became the first megayacht to start construction, on spec, in the autumn of last year. An owner signed a contract to acquire her just this past March.
The hull turn took place with several Arksen staffers on hand. One of them was Jim Mair, the company’s technical director. “It’s now great to be able to walk along her deck and to really get a feel for the interior space,” he says.
With naval architecture and styling by Humphreys Yacht Design, the yacht is meant to be a true global explorer. In fact, best range should come between 9 and 11 knots, making for 7,000 nautical miles under hybrid power. In terms of the interior, Design Unlimited is outfitting four staterooms for up to 12 people in the owner’s party. These include a full-beam master that, unusually, also has its own multi-purpose room. That room can be a study, for instance, or a media room. It can also be a kids’ stateroom. Further notable, with the Arksen Project Ocean, the design studio intends to prove that recycled and other sustainable materials can create the luxurious ambiences that today’s cruisers want.
The Arksen Project Ocean remains on schedule for delivery next year. In the meantime, her aluminum superstructure should start construction soon. Then, upon delivery, the owner intends to embark on a global cruise.
