Fifteen years ago, Mangusta revealed hull number one of its Mangusta 165 series. This maxi open megayacht went on to see 14 deliveries, including Moonraker, Da Vinci, and more. With the Mangusta 165 REV, the shipyard changes things up a bit while remaining true to its tradition of sporty-looking, performance-oriented yachts.
The first step in that change is collaborating with Igor Lobanov’s design studio. While the yacht is still unmistakably a maxi, the 164-footer (50-meter) has markedly larger, floor-to-ceiling glass along the main deck. Lobanov himself additionally says the curves and convex shapes along her profile come from 1930s sports cars. In partnership with the shipyard’s design team, his studio further has fashioned a side-launching toy garage capable of holding a 21-foot (6.2-meter) tender and a PWC. They also created a 387-square-foot (36-square-meter) beach club with a two-part transom hatch. And, balconies deploy to each side along the main deck by the dining area, which has sliding glass doors.
Of course, remaining true to the brand, the Mangusta 165 REV has familiar features outside. These include the bow lounge, encompassing 645 square feet (60 square meters) with an infinity pool and large seating/sunning spaces ideal for keeping an eye on the kids or enjoying cocktails. They also include a flying bridge with a hot tub, more lounging space, and a full bar. Enjoying either of these at low speeds or thrilling speeds remains the same, too. The Mangusta 165 REV should see a top end of 34 knots with quadruple MTUs paired with KaMeWa waterjets. A far more leisurely pace should provide a range of 650 nautical miles.
Since all Mangustas are semi-custom, this new project follows suit. Milan-based M2 Atelier has a suggested decor with warm, elegant tones. These particularly highlight the voluminous nature of the two-level, 990-square-foot (92-square-meter) master suite. A lounge and an office are on one level, while the night area (bed and full-beam bath) are down a few steps. M2 Atelier ensures elegant entertaining can occur farther aft on the main deck (above), with an open-plan saloon, dining area, and a bar, the latter beneath three skylights.
For guests, the Mangusta 165 REV offers either four or five staterooms, In the four-cabin arrangement, you can request a gym or a media room occupy the extra floor space.
