When it comes to cruisers who like long and lean looks, Silver Yachts certainly has an upper hand. The Australian shipyard is back with yet another slim and trim superyacht design proposal, the suitably named Silver Edge.
Silver Yachts is best-known for the yachts it’s done with Espen Øino, namely Bold, Dragonfly (formerly Silver Zwei), and Silver Fast. The studio is once again responsible for Silver Edge. Just as the three deliveries are svelte, so, too, is Silver Edge. The 261-foot (79.5-meter) yacht has a beam of 33 feet (10 meters). While that is certainly narrower than usual, generally speaking, slim hulls contribute to performance when a good turn of speed is a priority. And, Silver Yachts has experience in this regard. In fact, Silver Fast sees 4,500 nautical miles at 18 knots and transatlantic capabilities at 22 knots. Unfortunately, the shipyard cannot yet publicize Silver Edge’s anticipated speeds or range. The engine package is still under final review.
Regardless, the all-aluminum yacht concept is for a party of up to 18 guests in eight staterooms. To stimulate potential owners’ imaginations, a few design features especially stand out. Firstly, a glass-enclosed winter garden occupies part of the main deck, aft of the saloon. Since Silver Edge isn’t traditional in looks, the winter garden cleverly replaces the conventional formal dining area. The winter garden further has a bar. This makes it a leisure area owners and guests will want to enjoy more than just at mealtime.
Since so many cruisers prefer being outside, of course, Silver Edge has in-demand alfresco amenities. Note, for example, the pool deck (above). Easily, the youngest members of the family can splash around while the grown-ups enjoy sunning, or shade beneath biminis. Further noteworthy, the pool has a glass bottom, bringing light into the beach club. Additionally, a tender can stow atop the pool when it’s covered. More, smaller watertoys stow behind gullwing doors fully forward.
Even with the quite sociable social areas, Silver Edge can ensure privacy. In fact, you can reserve an upper deck entirely for yourself. Even with a nice-size sleeping area and interior lounge, you still have more than 1,000 square feet (95 square meters) of outside space.
With more possibilities ranging from a removable movie screen and projector on the sundeck to a dive center down below, Silver Edge has quite the edge.
