Having departed Lürssen just a few weeks ago, Moon Sand has had the first of what should be many adventures with a cruising-loving family. This timelapse look at Moon Sand starts with her steel cutting more than two years ago and culminates with the 182-footer (55.5-meter) heading to London for her maiden voyage.
The subject of great discussion when the shipyard signed her, the megayacht surprised a lot of yacht watchers for her size. In fact, Lürssen had made a name for itself with several superyachts far exceeding her LOA. However, being a custom shipyard, it does still welcome so-called smaller contracts, and is further pursuing more of them.
Interestingly, one of the first frames in this timelapse look at Moon Sand may bring to mind another famous Lürssen. That yacht is the well-known Carinthia VI, which saw delivery way back in 1973. She features styling by the late Jon Bannenberg, whose studio is now run by his son, Dickie Bannenberg, and fellow designer Simon Rowell. The ow Bannenberg & Rowell team worked with Moon Sand’s owners for styling, borrowing some of the design cues from Carinthia VI, plus of course incorporating other quite precise ideas from the owners.
This video provides some of the very first looks at those ideas in terms of the interior, too. Dickie Bannenberg credits the owners with having a strong sense of spatial awareness, utilizing every square inch possible. He and the shipyard additionally credit the owners with having a strong sense of color, leaning towards bold tones. Fascinating shapes, strong textures, and more are visible.
