Infinity, the Oceanco project widely known by her hull number, Y719, has embarked on sea trials in the North Sea off the Dutch coast.
The 384-footer (117-meter), with her nameboards under cover, headed to Rotterdam from Oceanco’s base in Alblasserdam. You may recall that the yacht splashed last October as Oceanco’s largest launch, too. Further of note, the megayacht is the largest project to date from any builder in The Netherlands.
Though Oceanco and other parties involved in her design and construction are keeping details confidential, Infinity reportedly has a beam of 52’5” (16 meters). Additionally, she encompasses seven decks. Naturally for a modern-day megayacht, a few hot tubs as well as a swimming pool are spread across these decks. She also has helipads.
Delivery should be this spring.
Meanwhile, Infinity is not the only record-setting superyacht under construction at Oceanco. A sailing superyacht (or perhaps a sail-assisted superyacht) measuring about 417 feet (127 meters) is in build, too. Her hull number is Y721, and she’s been the subject of several global headlines as of late. Dutch broadcaster Rijnmond reported last week that Oceanco and the city of Rotterdam had come to an agreement to partially dismantle a bridge in the city to let Y721 pass through with her masts intact. The station added that Oceanco and the owner (rumored to be Amazon.com founder Jeff Bezos) will incur the costs. However, some Rotterdam residents oppose dismantling the bridge. Specifically, they cite the bridge’s historic nature, dating to the 19th century. The city rebuilt the bridge following World War II and restored it several years ago as well.
A few days after the broadcast, the mayor of Rotterdam contradicted the report. A spokesperson for him says that Oceanco requested permission to dismantle the bridge, but that it hasn’t sought permits. But, the spokesperson also says that if the city does receive a formal request, then it will consider it.
