The first glimpses of what the interior of the second Arksen 85 will look like are available. Additionally, the build and design team are sharing insight into the collaborative relationship with the owner and captain of Arksen’s Project Pelagos.
The owner is keen to do a good deal of cruising and exploring. Nigel Jones of the studio Design Unlimited explains that the owner chose to replicate the layout of hull number one. However, Jones says, he wanted the overall ambience to better suit a different style of cruising. Specifically, he first wishes to travel around the Mediterranean with his family. Then, he’ll embark upon farther-flung voyages, along with friends. Therefore, the saloon (above) has a more relaxed look and feel, with a seating area to bring the whole family together. Additionally, “there’s even added storage specifically for board games,” Jones notes. “The use of this area is to be relaxed and family orientated, with the intention of playing card games, watching films, and casual dining,” he continues. Bean bag chairs and soft carpeting encourage family members to kick back, even on the floor.
Notably, Arksen’s Project Pelagos will cruise primarily in warm regions. Therefore, the owner didn’t want a formal dining area inside, opting instead for mostly alfresco meals. “The more formal and social dining for this owner will be set up on the main deck outside so they can enjoy the elements,” Jones explains.
Sophie Porteous who heads furnishings, fixtures, and equipment for Design Unlimited, points out that sustainable design is important, too. Therefore, paper-based laminates and Vyva Fabrics, which uses recycled plastic bottles, are onboard. Those fabrics are recyclable as well, as are the wood panels. “Clients want more eco-friendly options, and this is becoming much easier than it was a few years ago with the range available,” Porteous says.
Equally important to the owner and Design Unlimited: the captain’s input. The captain has an additional double cabin where the owner of hull number one requested a library. Helpfully, it contains a nav screen, allowing the captain to keep an eye on things while he’s away from the helm. It further lets him call up data on the yacht’s systems.
Arksen’s Project Pelagos is progressing toward launch later this year.
