Normally videos on YouTube and other platforms are up to a few minutes long. The livestream of the Amels 60 launch lasts more than an hour. However, if you want to see where the action starts, fast forward to around the 24-minute mark. That’s when the bulbous-bowed big boat begins the painstaking emergence from her build shed.
The livestream of the Amels 60 launch took place on March 2. Between on-the-ground camera crews and drones, Damen Yachting provides an inside look at what it takes to move these voluminous projects. Additionally, it provides an excellent idea of just how mammoth the 197-footer (60-meter) is. Workers walking alongside the superyacht inside her shed stand only about the height of the wheeled platform sliding her out.
This newest Amels Limited Editions features metallic grey paint calling attention to her nearly vertical bow design. Furthermore, her much more angular superstructure design and equally angular windows catch your eye. Styling is by Espen Øino, a change of pace for the renowned studio. Traditionally, the design team has penned fully custom megayachts. A series build like the Amels 60 is for potential clients—and an anticipated long list of potential clients. Therefore, the studio relied upon Damen Yachting’s insight into what customers want to see and experience most.
While the livestream of the Amels 60 launch doesn’t take you inside, the yacht does have a fold-down balcony off the owners’ suite. Guest accommodations, meanwhile, take care of 10 people. Winch Design has been collaborating with this hull’s owner, a previous Amels customer, to create what it calls a “home at the beach” atmosphere.
Minutes before the livestream of the Amels 60 launch ends, the crowning achievement occurs. Literally. Her mast lowers into place on her top deck.
The yacht, whose nameboard remains under wraps, will see delivery toward the end of the spring.
