Galeon Yachts is a relatively new name in American yachting, but it has four decades of boatbuilding experience. Based in Poland, it’s taken its first steps into large-yacht territory, with the Galeon 800 Fly. It’s done so with a studio well versed in this market, Tony Castro Design. Simultaneously, it’s giving production-boat buyers their initial taste of what customizing a large yacht really means.
At 83 feet (25.35 meters) LOA, the Galeon 800 Fly caters to a party of eight, with abundant entertaining space. For starters, the cockpit-like foredeck is ideal to kick off a weekend cruise with everyone gathered for drinks and canapés. A bar just inside the saloon from the aft-deck doors complements one on the flying bridge. The open-galley design—akin to a show kitchen—lets you, or your chef, dazzle guests. As for the flying bridge, Galeon Yachts packs quite a lot in here, too. Besides the already-mentioned bar, which sits opposite a large seating/dining area, a further significant seating area wraps around the entire aft end. (You can swap this out for a davit and RIB stowage. But, those of you with lots of friends and family might hear protests.) A hot tub nestles between the two settees, while sun worshippers can stretch out just forward of the helm.
Tony Castro Yacht Design’s experience with superyachts serves the Galeon 800 Fly well. Notably, the studio has collaborated with the shipyard on a number of previous models. This lends an air of sophistication not normally seen in production boats. For instance, backlit stone can cover not just the saloon bar, but also the galley serving area, along with walls.
Scott Robertson, a 30-year veteran of MarineMax, worked with the owner of hull number one, which recently arrived stateside, to tailor everything to his tastes. (MarineMax is the exclusive dealer for Galeon Yachts in the United States.) They did so while the Galeon 800 Fly was still at the shipyard. The 19-foot (5.8-meter) beam shows off modern Art Deco details, with as much attention to accent lighting as there is to furnishings.
Although MarineMax hasn’t disclosed the engine package on hull number one, Galeon provides buyers with a choice. Twin 1,650-hp MANs or twin 1,920-hp MTUs are each available. And, with draft being 4’5” (about 1.35 meters), abundant waters are within reach.
