As much as yachts are termed pleasure boats for good reason, rare is the superyacht where guests walk around with ear-to-ear grins. It’s impossible not to do so when exploring the decks of the yacht Rio, among the latest deliveries from CRN.

Celebrating her launch early last year, the 203-footer (62-meter) is in some ways no different than similar-size yachts. Firstly, she’s entirely custom. Styling is by Omega Architects, with the large open transom sections being a hallmark of the studio’s recent designs. Interiors, meanwhile, reflect the owner’s clear vision, in collaboration with Pulina Exclusive Interiors. Additionally, Rio accommodates 12 people, has a private owner’s deck, and has several spaces for generations to spend time together. The difference, though, is that Rio is incredibly playful. In fact, the owner stipulated that rooms be bright and colorful, and that the overall ambience be happy especially for the youngest members of the family.

Even areas where the owner spends mere minutes over weeks of cruising receive this attention. The lobby on the owner’s deck (above) is a prime example. The jungle scene, a special request, embodies the vibrant, tropical mood throughout the yacht. Note the toucan in the hand-painted mural; the motif appears elsewhere aboard, too. In fact, sharp-eyed yacht spotters will recognize that the “R” in her nameboard is actually the profile of the distinctive bird.

Further sharp-eyed visitors aboard the yacht Rio will no doubt recall the leopard in the owner’s lobby mural. White-lacquered oak in the master suite lets a similar cat, this time a sculpture, pop. The white backdrop does the same for the varying blue shades of furnishings and detailing. Speaking of blue, the owner’s desk can rotate 90 degrees into an L shape for taking in views of the ocean while working. No doubt this encourages quickly wrapping work up, too, to head outside.

In fact, 1,238 square feet (115 square meters) of the overall 3,477 square feet (323 square meters) of the owner’s deck is alfresco space, forward of the sleeping area. It includes a pool (below), recessed so that it enjoys some protection from breezes. Mostly, though, the placement means it’s incredibly private, not visible from the wheelhouse or elsewhere onboard. Should the owner want to, though, he can invite guests on deck for parties day or night. (And in case you’re wondering: The crew access lines and mooring gear immediately below, directly from their area.)

Even with his abundant private space, the owner wanted the youngest family members to enjoy cruising aboard Rio. A twin cabin (above), with a vibrant green theme and a Pullman berth, is for them below decks. Additionally, the upper-deck saloon (below) isn’t entirely an adult domain, catering to game time, too. Two double staterooms and a full-beam VIP, each with individualized, vibrant colors like fuchsia, await other guests of different ages below decks. Yet another full-beam VIP is on the main deck, forward, easily a second master suite due to its size.

Just as the upper-deck saloon equally welcomes the small set and adults, so does the main saloon (below). The 83-inch TV is perfect for them to play video games, from the comfort of a big settee. Meanwhile, the grown-ups can keep an eye on them while enjoying their own time aft, at the marble-covered bar. If the owner’s family is spread out just prior to dinner time, they can sit down together at the custom round drum table at the saloon’s center.

The yacht Rio is as much for luxurious time at sea as she is for quality family time. With superyachts increasingly catering to families, in fact, she’s proof that “kid-friendly” and “adult-oriented” aren’t mutually exclusive descriptions.
