Mediterranean cruising is just one of the things the owners of the yacht Astera may do in the coming months. They were on hand for the launch ceremony a few days ago, making a special trip to the Baglietto shipyard in Tuscany, in fact.
Astera, at 133 feet (nearly 41 meters), is a Baglietto DOM 133 project. (Her hull number, for yacht enthusiasts who like tracking these things, is 10246.) The aluminum displacement series has seen four previous launches, including that of the yacht Perla Biana last spring. The DOM 133 is just one of a few DOM range options, too. All are midsize megayachts with big volumes for more family-focused travel.
Like her predecessors, Astera has styling and naval architecture by Studio Vafiadis. Her nearly straight bow offers more usable interior space, therefore maximizing the sense of volume. Sporty lines and cutouts in bulwarks draw attention to her profile. Among the most noticeable features across the entire DOM 133 line, the beach area is two levels. It incorporates an infinity pool that when not in use has a raising floor to increase the main-deck portion of the beach area.
Inside, meanwhile, the owners enjoyed tailoring the layout and looks to their tastes. Here as well, they collaborated with Studio Vafiadis. Among the priorities throughout the yacht: excellent visibility when relaxing and entertaining. For example, the main saloon has full-height glass on its port side. This notably in turn required structural changes. Therefore, the studio and shipyard reconfigured ventilation ducts to run outside rather than fully within the interior walls.
Yet another custom request, the yacht Astera has a combination of a window and door in the skylounge. There’s actually two of them, each leading out to cozy balconies. No previous Baglietto DOM 133 deliveries have these window-doors nor the balconies.
Final outfitting and sea trials are in the plans over the next several weeks. Sea trials specifically should confirm a top speed of 17 knots. The megayacht has twin Caterpillar diesels; other owners of DOM 133 projects have opted for hybrid propulsion.
