Six months after it completed renovations at a related nearby site, The Italian Sea Group has sold the Viareggio-based shipyard of Perini Navi. The buyer: Next Yacht Group.
According to the financial media outlet Alliance News, The Italian Sea Group revealed the sale finalization on June 12. The yard previously specialized in constructing Perini Navi sailing superyachts to 164 feet (50 meters). It had been Perini Navi’s headquarters since its founding in 1983. In a statement, The Italian Sea Group indicated that the size and draft limitations of the shed and the immediate waters were incompatible with its focus on projects exceeding that LOA.
Divesting itself of the site follows previous similar moves. For example, last year it sold the former Perini Navi offices, after consolidating them at its global headquarters in Marina di Carrara.

“We are very satisfied with this transaction, which is in line with our business strategy of focusing on the segment of custom-made large yachts,” says Giovanni Costantino, founder and CEO of The Italian Sea Group. “We are glad that the activities in the historic Viareggio shipyard will soon be restarted by a prestigious player in yachting for the benefit of the local community and the entire supply chain.”
The Italian Sea Group acquired Perini Navi at bankruptcy auction in 2021. The winning bid granted ownership of properties in Viareggio and La Spezia. Notably, The Italian Sea Group renovated some of the Viareggio facilities, completing the work in December 2023. Specifically, it updated the cabinetry shop, responsible for interiors. The cabinetry department remains part of its holdings. Additionally, it transformed a building into a flagship showroom and meeting space for all of its brands. (The Italian Sea Group also owns Admiral, Tecnomar, Picchiotti, and NCA Refit.) Part of that transformation included paying homage to Perini Navi’s history in the city. Instead, some unfinished projects stemming from the bankruptcy transferred to The Italian Sea Group’s other facilities.
Next Yacht Group has not commented on the acquisition. Regardless, its focus is motoryachts under the AB Yachs and Maiora brands to 150 feet (46 meters).
