Imagine a surfboard company purposely designing a board for kids and adults alike to master simply. Simultaneously, imagine this company’s founders being passionate about ocean conservation and preservation. This is the story of Lind electric surfboards, which is not only taking orders now for its first model, but also hosting an auction benefitting an ocean non-profit.
Lind electric surfboards are lightweight, just 15 pounds (about 7 kilograms) without the drivetrain. This therefore means you can carry one under your arm without issue. The drivetrain, meanwhile, contains a lithium-ion battery and waterjet that lock in place in just 15 seconds. Lind makes everything, including the battery design and its automated overheating controls, in house. Additionally, it invites you to customize your board, from color to materials. If you’re an uber-enthusiast, check out its touring exhibition, A New Way to Play, featuring 12 boards created with renowned contemporary artists (left). Each is up for auction, benefitting Oceanic Global, an ocean-conservation charity.
Learn more about Lind’s electric surfboards—and the auction—in this month’s Megayacht News newsletter. Our newsletter, sent on a subscriber-only basis, provides information each month that you won’t find here on the website. It contains information you’re certain to want to know, too. For example, you’ll learn about a historic collaboration among the world’s five yacht classification societies. For the past year, they’ve been laying the groundwork on a common set of technical standards and requirements for safety and environmentally conscious behavior. These will help yachting professionals and owners tackle challenges from the design stage straight through to on-water operations.
We also bring you news from Ethical Yacht Wear, which has eliminated the equivalent of 1 million plastic bottles from the oceans. Furthermore, we inform you about Moonen Yachts’ new sales representative in the United States, and the iconic yacht Alfa Nero re-entering the charter market, among others.
