Thomas Murphy, the owner of the yacht Miss Michelle, and his family are really looking forward to this summer. They’ll be cruising aboard their new Horizon superyacht in New England. First, though, they’ll enjoy the warm, crystal-clear waters of the Bahamas and the Caribbean. It’s all possible because Horizon Yachts let them extensively tailor a semi-custom model to their liking.
In fact, the yacht Miss Michelle is what Horizon considers an RP122 model. “RP” stands for Raised Pilothouse, a series including the RP110 and RP120. Based on how he and his family like to spend their time, Murphy requested multiple “very special” changes.

For example, multiple Horizon customers enjoy a pretty relaxed lifestyle, with the galley being a combination of a work area and the family’s breakfast bar. Miss Michelle has more of a traditional distinction between the guest area and the work area. Additionally, the ambience is crisp and clean, dominated by white from the stone soles to the furnishings and walls. The dining area is a showpiece itself, too, with inlaid woods creating star-like designs in the tabletop.
Alfresco amenities are a priority of the RP series, and the yacht Miss Michelle is no different. The family has a hot tub on the foredeck, nestled between a sunpad and a U-shape seating area. The uppermost deck, meanwhile, straddles the line between being an indoor and an alfresco space. Despite a hardtop and windows enveloping the extra helm, a bar, and seating, the area is entirely open aft, by a dining table. Furthermore, the windows can slide open.
Of course, Miss Michelle also has a cozy beach club. Here as well, the Murphys have custom features, including opening platforms on two sides. Thanks to seating, the beach club will be the place to feel more emotionally connected to the sea. A wetbar and proximity to the swim platform mean it can be the play-and-relax-all-day area.
The Murphy family has even more plans in store. After New England, they’ll cruise Canada. Finally, next summer, the yacht Miss Michelle will take them around the Med.

“The fit and finish on the Horizon is the best of any boat I’ve had or been on,” Murphy says.
